Respond to Goldstein's essay: Blog #2
I think that cartoons are a "safer" medium for political expression. This is because with the humor added into the mix, it allows for comic relief. Cartoons also give a more literal meaning to political expressions because the illustrator is showing the situation through society's eyes, the way everyone else sees it. The intentions of these cartoons are to persuade an audience to see another side or to help understand a different point of view as well. Yes, these cartoons can sometimes cross the line, but not all of them do. If a cartoon does cross the line, then I believe that it might be necessary to censor or regulate it so that it does not offend others in any way. Most cartoons though, are considered a humorous and relieving type of political expression.
