"Hate Hotel" by Tony Hoagland Blog #3

I believe that the literal meaning of this poem is that the writer is very unhappy with the relationships he has with people. He expresses all the hate he has for people and the ways in which he hates them, but deep down inside, he is not content. He says that he likes to think about the hate he has for people, but in all honesty, it bothers him that he has so many hateful relationships that cannot be controlled. He says, "That's how hate works, it thrills you and kills you." This shows that it kills him inside to have so many unhealthy relationships. This applies to my life because when I think about the people I do not get along with, it doesn't make me feel too good about myself. Instead of wasting my time hating someone, I could have developed some sort of friendship with them.
